N^ku Dh^ruk

The greatest civilization will find a way to look outside itself and recognize in difference something that improves the world mind, the world capacity. Sadly that is not Australia.

This short paper of 1000 words is a response to reading Clare Wright's excellent new book N^ku Dh^ruk The Bark Petitions How the people of Yirrkala changed the course of Australian democracy,Text Publishing, Melbourne, Australia

Working papers subscribers may download the linked paper free for 48 hours. After that time there is a nominal charge which pays for the upkeep of the workingpapers website.

The failure to display characters in the title N^ku Dh^ruk is not a mistake. The undisplayed characters are left to illustrate the incapacity and inadequacy of our own mainstream writing and recording process.  The act of writing things down is in itself a distortion.
