Civic Entrepreneur

The civic entrepreneur is critical to the creation of a more flexible social state.

Over past decades, the common agenda, across continents and the poles of politics, has been to reform or eliminate government bureaucrats. Tony Blair wants a third way between market and state. Americans reinvented government along private sector lines. John Howard’s Australia  contracts many social services to ‘third sector’ national organisations and charities. The “third way” is Tony Blair’s mantra, the third sector is John Howard’s.

During this public service dark age it’s been hard to find positive stories. Heroic civil servants building dams, national highways, welfare states, justice for all – the post-WWII ethos – have been replaced by privatisation, contracting out and superior private sector management.
