Burial of a Villain

Requiem for Max Williams Reedy Swamp, 2012

She-oaks whisper,
Mountains bow,
Stringybark procession,
Dingo howl.
Words strengthen
Meanings glisten
After Death.
Steel bars melt, beatings - who remembers miserable thugs?
A place for the bush Poet Laureate,
Next to the sale-yards,
Looking down the valley
To Tathra.
Our great nation founded by villains like you,
Westminister!
Nothing less.
