A Discussion Starter for the Edmund Rice Centre’s Brooklyn Project which brought 30 Young Australians together for a discussion about Future Challenges from 2-6 April, 2008

I want to be so bold as to define a task for you and in doing so take you back on a journey through our current national problems to the formation of the Australian nation. Your task is to re-define, re-make and re-generate Australia in three ways:
1) Change our constitution to ensure that Indigenous land, culture, sovereignty and governance structures are fully operational in day to day Australian life;
2) Create a truly democratic and independent Australian Republic once again through constitutional change;
3) Hardest of all, unstick our nation, by making our constitution easier to change, so that the inadequacies we have in our current and past outlooks will not be a yoke for future generations
